How do I show a bitmap material on a surface without rendering a view?

Its not possible in revit. We can only hope for it in the future

Then how are we meant to size the bitmaps?
Sometimes we don't know the exact size we want a material to be - so seeing it in a view would be the easiest way to preview and adjust its size. I'm thinking of how 3D Max deals with UVW mapping on materials

In revit you can resize the maps to be the size you want it to be, but you wont be able to move the bitmap to fit the object as you can in 3D Max. In revit, material maps are very 'stiff' when it comes to editablity. So basically Autodesk forces you to go with 3D Max when you really want to get into custom material mapping

You can move the bitmaps alignment as it relates to the materials surface pattern, in the material editor. If youre using a Model pattern for the surface, and it looks like the rendered bitmap, its simple to just line them up. Then in the Shaded view, you align the model surface pattern with the proper locations on the object, and its set.
