hello,
in creating my roof plan geometry, i would like to trace over the structural roof-slab model, which is linked into our central file. would anyone be so kind as to share your past/present techniques in executing this task?

the roof geometry is fairly complex, but mostly flat and for the most part, simple; typ 4" struct slab on mtl deck (which has already been modeled) with some minor sloping for drainage. i want to use their geometry to produce my rigid-insul roof geometry.

all and any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

im running revit arch 2010.

thank you.

I do the same sort of thing to show the framing perimeter on foundation walls.

I create a new line style named "Trace" and give it unique color.
In the view, I then isolate the category I want to trace...this is to make very clear what I am tracing. I then draw the lines by picking edges.

In your case a faster way of doing this,(if you have access to the roof-slab model) is to go into the editing mode of the slab plan and do a CTRL-C of the sketch lines, get out of the editing mode and then do a paste aligned onto the plan you want to show the lines on. The lines will appear as model lines, you can then convert them to drafting lines.

Hope that helps.

thanks for the tip, Henry D.
i do have access to the struct model, and i have isolated the slab.

attempt 1:
use the struct slab to trace my roof on top of it. this seems to work albeit i haven't figure out how to tell the my roof to follow the roof datum points, automatically. otherwise, after i have created my roof (at a unique elevation) on top of the struct-slab, i will then have to go back and manually manipulate the datum points (for sloping) via the 'Modify-Sub-Elements' tool.

does this work-flow seem reasonable/viable?
