Cannot paste view-specific Elements

I am trying to copy one drawing into a new view (or import its view into a new file) and I keep getting an error message that tells me I cannot paste view-specific elements into a new view. I narrowed it down to be a specific element in the drawing. Every time the error message occurs it is bc of this element but the error message does not occur every time there is an instance of the element. On top of that, there have been a few instances in which there are two of the element in the drawing that will copy and paste separately but not together. I do not know what is wrong with the element but it would be a pain to have to go back into all of my files and redraw the element so that it works. We have created a few familys using a revit template involving the "draw" tool in which a pensil shows up and alows you to pick a point A and B that determins the family/components length.
