I have been given the task to attempt to determine why a teapot is being utilized for the render button on the rendering tool bar. There is also an i-pod shown in another drop-down of the same menu bar.
Anyone else have any ideas of why these icons were chosen? Were there no other choices?
Is autodesk attempting to tell us to go get a cup of tea (or coffee) while it renders?
It was noticed in ACAD 2010 and Civil3D 2009; I have not checked others as of yet.
Thanks in advance & if nothing else, it brings a laugh when I see that on the toolbar.

The Tea Pot Icon was the original render icon from the software company Descreet, the creators of 3D Studio Max. AutoDesk bought Discreet and added this render to AutoCAD later.
I still have my 3DS Max version 2 with this Tea Pot render icon. This Tea Pot was used in the first tutorials I used to animate an object on the screen.

and a teapot is a "primitive" object (just like a sphere and a pyramid) in 3DSmax.

Well this makes sense then. It's a legacy object, plain and simple.
I'm sure the individuals that presented this question will be pleased with the answer.
Thanks all for the responses.

It's a lot older and more widespread that 3d studio, max, acad, and predates Autodesk and desktop cad by a considerable margin.

Look for the teapot in Pixar films...
When Buzz Lightyear is having tea after breaking his arm in in grand swan dive? That's not just a teapot. That is the tea pot.
The Jar-Jar Gungan war with the droids when their main weapon was blue balls.... That's just a play on the 3DS material editor. The symbol for a material is a blue ball. I'm sure that was a big inside joke about th droids being defeated with pixels.
