Combining elements

I have a BIM bath tub that I'm trying to insert into a extruded box but when I combine the two the bath tub gets filled with the extruded component. I have tried Cut and New Host and none seem to be doing anything. How do I "empty" the tub

It looks like you're wanting the surface of that box to host the tub. I'm not sure if you can do a face-based family that will cut the host. Someone else may be able to answer that.

Is the box part of the tub family or an in-place component in the project? Either way I would just edit the sketch of the box to include a hole where the tub goes.

That is what I had to do, went in and created a box with a void in it.

The tub was no problem by using a void extrusion but I have simiar deal with sinks. These are placed on the actual edge of the box and if I do a void there it cuts the face of the box. I even went and created a cylindrical void extrusion with a flat face right on the edge of the box and it still cuts up the face of the box. If I go any further in, it shows up inside the sink.
