Text in Families

I need to know if there is a way to add text to a family that can be seen in a 3D view.
Does anyone have any tricks to do this?

I'm not sure what you want to achieve, but 3D Model Text can be used in a generic family.

I'd never tried model text before that seemed to do the trick.
