Is there a way to insert BIM objects (such as light fixtures that were created as being attached to the wall) to other structures, like furniture? I have a cabinet where I'm trying to insert a sconce that was created with a wall background and it just does not want to be attached to the cabinet.

It cant, because it depends on a Wall being present, since its built as wall hosted. Your best bet is to recreate the fixture as Face based. Then it can be hosted on any flat surface.

The light fixture you are trying to attach was created in the "hosted light fixture template"
so it needs a wall or other "host" to attach to. The Furniture category does not act as a
"host" so that is why you are having trouble.
So--try this:
Open up a Revit Family Template which is "face-based" light fixture.
Then, copy the light sconce into that template and save-as into your proper folder.
Next, open the Furniture family, and load component--and insert your new "face-based"
light fixture. This creates a "nested family". Save that to your proper folder.
Then load into your project.
Does that work?
cheers..............

How come the Light Source can not be copied & pasted?

If you opened a Generic Model Face Based template, first go to Settings > Family Catagories and parameters and switch the catagory to Light Fixture. Then, you can decide to bring in the Light Source, or define one in the FB family.
