View Full Version : Problem with View References and dependant views

I'm having a problem getting my view references to display correctly for my matchlines. I went through the advanced tutorial to try and trouble shoot this issue but I can't seem to figure it out. Here is what is going on.
1. I created my dependant views from the parent view
2. I placed the dependant views onto their respective sheets
3. I drew matchlines on the parent view (in this case a floor plan) using the matchline tool.
4. Using the view reference tool, I placed the tags making sure that the correct taget views are selected.

Problem: the references just say "Ref". When I go to their properties, the correct information (sheet nember/ detail number) is contained within, but the tag itself will not display it.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you fix it? I really like the idea of the dependant view/ matchline feature and would like to take advantage of it.
Thanks!

What version of Revit are you using?

When you place the reference, in the tool bar at the top, you need to pull and select the view that you want that arrow to reference.

I actually did that. That's why when you click the reference and go to its properties, it actually shows the correct information. However, in the drawing it only displays as "Ref".

You have to edit the tag and add the proper labels in the tag.

I'll try that, but isn't it supposed to display the correct information automatically? It did when going through the tutorial. The only other thing that I can think of is that someone in the office messed with the reference tag family and screwed it up (unless I'm just missing something, which happens from time to time).

If anyone else has this problem...
Edit the Type Properties of the tag. Under View Reference Tag, it is probably set to "none". I didn't have any others to choose from, so I started a new blank file from the default Revit template and used Transfer Project Standards to bring it in. Somehow all View Reference items were purged from our office template.
