I am trying to make a stair similar to the one in the attached revit file - basically a thick monolithic looking stair with smooth underside. The problem is that it looks fine when the stringer height and carriage heights are small, around 1' but when I increase them so that the underside of the stair lies where I need it to revit goes all haywire and the landing changes into what is seen in the revit file. Anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong? Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to make the railings for this look like 6" walls?

I thought I would add a picture of what I was talking about so people didn't have to open the revit file if they didn't want to. thanks

Do you have the "monolithic" stair check box in the stair properties checked? Looks like you you still have risers and treads in the attached image. A monolithic stair will not have separate risers and treads. They will be integrated into the stair.
6" walls as railings would be accomplished with a 6" x (wall height) profile loaded as a railing profile. No ballusters, and a single "rail" that is 6": wide and however tall you need it to be.

Scott, Thanks for the response. I unchecked the monolithic check box because when I had it checked the risers and treads floated above the mass of the stair (Please see attachment). Also, I have previously tried what you had suggested for the railing but when i did it the "wall" started above the diagonal created by drawing a line through the nose of the risers leaving a triangular gap above each tread.

A bunch of the stair type settings are a bit off. 10' stringer, open right stringer but none for a left stringer, stringer height is 3'6, and then carriage heights are 2'9. Just needs some clean up. I added another style and modified it. Changing it to monolithic works after you get things cleaned up a bit. The new one doesnt have a tread or nosing and the riser isnt sloped either.

Thanks for taking a look. The thing is that I needed the stair to be that "thick" (see first attached pdf) because of where it is located in the building. The only way I could do this is to start with a 7 riser 11 tread stair, only give it 1 open stringer the width of which is the entire stair(this gives it a monolithic look) and then use the stringer carriage height to fine tune where I wanted the under side of the stair to land. The problem is that at some point the landing juts out like in the first pdf and if I then check monolithic the mass(stringer) of the stair pulls off of the risers and treads - Starting with a monolithic stair there seems to be no way to "thicken" the stair.

Yeah, might have to combine some modeling with the stairs to get the correct look. I'll play with it a bit more, but couldnt get it to work right away either.
