Can Generic Model families be analyzed analytically?

hi guys. i'm designing a bridge in revit structure 2010. i'm making some complex shapes which must be made with generic model component family. i know how do draw analytical lines but the option to draw analytical lines doesn't come up when one is modeling generic families/components.

Start with the generic model template and then switch the object category to a structural category and the analytical lines will be available. Be aware though, if you change the category back to generic model the lines will switch to simple projection model lines.

Out of curiosity, what makes modeling as a generic model rather than any other category easier? You are using the same tools, right?

when i load the families into the project i want as much flexibility as possible in locating them. i don't get that with the categories(it might be because i've been using revit structure for about 3months. i'm a graduate student).

Be aware any drawn in analytical lines are not taking into account with the family from analytical packages.

However they when you use inplace families.

Standard analytical families like columns and beams have specific line based systems only that cannot be changed they are built in the rest are system families.

With inplace families you can create line based analytical components only, not plates or panel objects in that case use wall or slabs and filters to hide if you don't need the object.
