How detailed should window families be is my question?
I know that the size of the family matters...so I want to be as optimal as possible without causing any slowdown....
I have seen families that show every curve, every piece of weather-strip, all color options, everything is shown – But from what I understand it really slows down Revit.

Do you want a perfect representation of the window or just something to put into the wall or somewhere in-between?

Thanks a lot

You want to model four things: Frame, sash, muntins, & trim. Keep these four items somewhat generic in nature. Your details will show the real configuration of the windows.

The only really important dimension to model correctly (besides height and width) is the depth of the frame. We use one family as a generic representation of all of our windows and adjust the frame depth as needed. We have different families for different types, double hung, casement and sliders.
