View Full Version : Render almost there

So I've gotten myself a render almost to the point I'm satisfied through a lot of trial and error. It's just a bit too cartoonish yet. Is this resolvable in lighting settings/adjustments, or do I need to find better materials to use?

Cartoonish is okay. I'd subject the background to some photoshop effects to make it cartoony, too.
Also, as you probably know, getting into that house looks tricky.

I think the main thing is the lighting. The lighting on the house doesn't really match the background. I would play around with exposure adjustments of both the rendering (in Revit) and the background photo.
Also, will there be steps up to the front, or is that just the foundation exposed in the rendering? If the former, model the steps, and do some polygon picking in Photoshop or other program to make the lower edge of the foundation match the perspective and topo in the background.
I would also work with layers for the background, so that you get some of that grass sticking up in front of the lower parts of the house. Maybe model a driveway, too.

I haven't decided if I want to photoshop a foreground on top or model some topo and shrubbery yet. I'm trying to figure out a best practices method so that we may apply the method (aka... I can tell others how to apply) to all of our 200+ standard models and set something up in our template to apply to custom orders at will.

Play with the exposure lighting in both background & render - check
steps and topo - check
photoshop grass in front - hmmm new trick to learn - but check.Thanks.

I tried with the photo editing of exposures, and a million other settings and just couldn't get it to my liking... so... I tried this instead with good results...http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=113541

I think you could also use a boost in the level of detail. Try adding gutters, additional detail to the vents so that there are shadow lines, seems to the garage door, corner boards at exterior corners, etc. You also may want to try and add a projector light with tree shadows. I have not done this in revit, but in a lot of other programs you can create a light that uses an image as the light source. You then set the intensity to a negative value and it creates the appearance of shadows being cast on the building. Also, you may be able to play with increased atmospheric lighting settings to get better definition. And, it is personal opinion, but....... maybe a different color for the siding and a different stone texture.
