I'm having a problem with my Transitional Constraint. I did a tutorial last week that worked fine. This week I've tried my own and can't get any where. A message keeps popping up saying that it can't be evaluated. I've attached a ZIP file containing the simple assembly I've been working with. The ZIP also contains a BMP of the message that keeps appearing.
Can somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I select the Constraint button and choose the Transitional tab. I then select the cylindrical part followed by a face in the slotted part. Click OK and the message pops up and nothing else happens.

I opened your assembly in Inv9. I followed the same steps you listed
Select Transitional Constraint, select the cylindrical surface first, then the inner face of the slot (it is easily selected in the isometric view) and created the constraint. Everything worked as expected.
As I tried to recreate your error conditon, I select the circular section of the slot. I did not receive an error message, but the rod was constrained to the outside face of the block.
I do not know why the file does not like you. You might try closing Inventor and opening the files in a new session (the Microsoft approach).

I just got back from AU and saw your message. I opened your files and selected the transitional constraint feature and selected the outer diameter of the cylinder and an inner surface of the slot. The constraint worked as expected. I was unsuccessful in replicating your error message.
I was advised in one of the labs to save often and depending on the computer memory and graphic card that you may need to restart inventor if you have a problem with a simple feature.
Have you tried it again? Were you successful?

That is very odd.
I tried it many times and it worked just fine.
Why is it I can never get an error when I want one?
Interested to see if someone can figure out what the problem is...

I've tried the file on both V8 & V9, the problem does not go away for me. I'm on WinXP service pack ??? Inventor 9 service pack 1. I've tried every trick in the book, shut down the file, shut down the program, rebooting, diffrent computer, nothing seams to work for me.
This doesn't seem to be a very complicated action to perform does it now? Could there be some problem with the way the computers are configured at work? Inventor does seem to crash a lot.

This seems odd that it doesn't work on other computers at work. I am running Inventor 9 on Windows XP service pack 2. I have yet to have Inventor 9 crash on this platform. I would check the configuration with your CAD Manager or reseller. Best of luck.

I'm on WinXP service pack ???
To find out which service pack you have, open "My Computer" and select Help > About Windows
