Dimension to Grid in a Detail

I am having trouble showing my full dimension string when I snap to a gridline. The tricky part is I do not want to show the gridline because I want to crop my view alot smaller. I don't care if its just show the dimstring partial I just want to be able to show the distance.

If you look on the attachment I have highlighted the area I want to see and the gridline i want to reference to.

Any input will help. Thanks

You may have to create a detail component that replicates a dimension with a double arrow at one end or whatever you use to indicate a dimension to something outside the view area.

You can also break the view using the little blue controls shown in you image. You can dimension across the break and you can then move the 2 broken views closer together.
