Our office is new to revit. Two of us are working on the same project and have been having trouble with worksets. To date we have one workset but both of us are not able to work in the same workset without constantly having to save to central and relinquish all mine. At times is has not been possible for both of us to have the workset active. Is it possible for two people to work in the same workset or is the purpose of a workset to split up project areas so that multiple people are not working in the same workset but rather in individual worksets?

Hello sara.239966,

Welcome to Augi! Worksets are a wonderful part of Revit once you get the hang of them. To me it sounds like the both of you are trying to check out the entire workset (or make it active) which is something you never want to do. What you really want to do is work on the individual objects that need to be edited. The purpose of worksets to me is to break the project up into logical building systems, ie Exterior Shell, Interior Layout, Core, Furniture Layout and things like that. One last thing don't think of worksets like layers in AutoCAD it isn't and if you do so you could be leading youself down a path for a lot of workset management.

Hope That Helps!

As Rodney suggests 'element borrowing' rather than checking out an entire workset is the recommended practice.
Depending on the size of the project you should be able to work as you normally do without bumping into each other too much. The only time you will run into problems is when you are dealing with design options and worksets. Post again if this is the issue you are having.
