beam to floor join problem

Hi,
I'm having a problem with joining a structural framing beam and floor. When I join geometry the top part of the beam disappears. The beam and floor core are the same material. Does someone know why is this happening?

It usually depends on the order in which the join was established. If that's true here as well try selecting the beam first and then the floor.

The join geometry tool removes the visible edge between the joined elements. Making them different materials doesn't seem to be the solution either. I would probably use the edit cut profile tool to shape the slab around your beam.
