I'm pulling my hair out over this one and it's mostly because I have a deadline in a couple days and I CAN'T EVEN OPEN THE REVIT FILE!!!! I'm getting a message when I try to open it that says "a serious error has occurred. It is strongly recommended that you SAVE AS and continue" but when I select Save As nothing happens and I get the "Load Failed" warning. WHAT HAPPENED!!??
Everything was working fine yesterday and now this morning things are all crazy! The only thing I can think of is that we have a bunch of ACAD file linked in (since no everyone in the office is Revit savvy) and maybe this is bogging everything down. Any ideas? This is really the worst time for this to be happening!

Can you do an Audit on it when you open or does that yield that same results? Is this a Workset project? If so, try creating new local files for eveyone. Also if you think that the AutoCAD links are the problem maybe try moving the CAD files into a temporary sub folder so that Revit can't find them when its loading. Then if it opens, move them back to the original folder and reload one at a time.

Does it appear to load the file, then when drawing the open view crash? If so turn off 3d accelleration and try again. Your view probably cannot be regenerated due to the dwg data.
If thats not it you'll need to open a backup.

In response to Eric's question, I tried to Audit and got the same error. I get it when I open any of the local files or the Central file too. Yes it's a workset project. I also tried the trick of renaming the folder to orphan all the ACAD files and that didn't seem to work either. And now I'm having the same error when I try to open a backup.
3D acceleration is turned off and it still does it. I'm trying to get a backup off our server from yesterday to see if that works but I'm running out of ideas! This is potentially over a YEAR of work that I can't get to!

Everyone is getting the same error when they open their local files on their local machines, also?

I don't know what happened to cause the problem or what we did to solve it, but I had our IT guy reboot the server and was finally able to get a backup copy to open. I think everything is working now but what an awful morning! Thanks for your help guys!

Glad you got it working again. Sounds like a :beer::beer: kinda day, after work of course.

Shoot we used to have weekly beer parties AT work during the summer months at the last firm I worked at :p :beer::beer: I was always the one sent out in the company car to go pick up several hundred dollars worth of all different brands of brew.

Well I hope it never happens again but next time Jessica, since it is a workshared file, try selecting which worksets you want to open (you can find this option in the Open dialog box). I remember I couldn't open a file once, then I tried opening it by loading one workset at a time until I find which one was causing the error. Once inside the file, I deleted the workset and copied the entities again from a backup. At least we only lose some work on that specif workset...
