Hi all -

We occasionally like to reference other drawings in a text note. Is there a way to make the drawing reference (eg 2/A10.3.20) a live object in that text - similar to how you can do a callout box and reference another view, but in a text format instead? I'm thinking it would have to be some sort of annotation family.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Cheers,
Peter

No, there is no direct way. IT has been a wishlist item for some time.

Work-a-round is to modify a Detail mark and remove the label for "similar", remove the circle, etc, then rearrange the detail number and sheet number, making them the same font as you use in your notes. After all this, you can type the note leaving a blank in it for the detail reference. Then you can put in the detail reference, moving it to where you want it.

Personnally, this is way too much trouble. If a not needs to reference something that is in another sheet, we've learned to reference the "series" of sheets, like A4's.

I've tried doing this before, but then my boss tells me to put the actual reference location (detail/sheet number) so as to not confuse the "dumb" contractors LOL

hey if it avoids a phone call from a GC or sub "hey thar where is that there detail, I caynt find it" then I'm all for it.

I would that the with the database functionality of Revit, you'd be able to do this in a text field with a "hyperlink" function. Same way you link text to a web page, you tell the text to link to a callout. I know you can do it with cells and text in Excel, so you should be able to make Revit do it.
Here's to hoping...
