Adding a Gable to Massing Element

I'm an arch student working on my senior project, committed to using Revit. Speaking of committed (this is driving me crazy)...I'm trying to add some neighborhood context to the site portion of the Revit model. I'm not satisfied with blocks to represent the neighboring buildings. I'd like to show roof pitches, parapets, solids/void for these context buildings. I'm trying to achieve this the way Sketchup works (see image). However, the Revit massing tool (which is in-place) only allows me to 'add edge' to vertical faces, and not horizontal faces...Perhaps my brain is polluted with Sketchup. Please enlighten me. Thanks.

Wow that's just odd. Seems like a pretty major oversight to only allow edges to be added to vertical surfaces. :roll:
