In the past, my office has simplified our wall types in plan to not show all the materials and layers making up a wall type (as was the case for most CAD drawings I've found). Now, with Revit, we can easily add and change materials to a wall type as needed in a project. However, this makes for some pretty "muddy" walls in our plans as all the lines for the different materials blend together on the printed sheet.
What my office wants to do is make it so that the core or structure is the thicker cut line, and then the finishes are a thinner lineweight. I've found that you can do this by changing the visibility settings of each view using the "override Host Layers" option. I can then override each layer function in the wall/floor/roof types. Unfortunately I've discovered this late in the game and will need go back and adjust all my views to these new settings.
Can anyone tell me what the drawbacks of this method might be? Another option is that I could override all the walls in the views and change their detail display to coarse, but even then I'm not sure that's how my office will want to display it since we want to dimension to the structure of the wall. I assume the "Override Host Layers" can be set in the template for future projects?
So, if we can't get the walls to display the way we want ("we" being everyone but me since I know what a hassle it is to change all these things), what are good ways to persuade the decision people that we should do it the way Revit wants to OOTB?
