Queston #1:
I am modeling my existing floor plan for a remodeling project. I would like to indicate the existing kitchen cabinets in the model. Rather than load each individual cabinet, I would like to show the entire wall of base cabinets as one big rectangular mass (36" high x 24" deep x the desired length). What should I do?

I am a rank beginner so bare with my dumb question.

You could:
1: actually place individual cabinets and then set their element property "phase created" to a previous phase (existing). You could then select them all and group them if you wanted.
2: create an in-place family as your block. Under the "home" - "component" drop-down "in-place" then create an extrusion to your specifications. You can define the category of this in-place family as well to help control visibility (casework, generic, specialty equipment, etc)
3: Do the step above in the family editor, either as a generic model, or a casework family. make your dimensions as instance and you can push and pull the "mass's" size however you want.
Hope that helps.

Also, check out www.woodworkinstitue.com/manual.asp as they have an entire cabinet library available in Revit families.
