View Full Version : Parametric sash window from Revitcontent.com
I'm no expert and I've no interest in promoting the company, but I was really impressed with the clean way this new Revit sash window family was created and documented by the man from revitcontent.com

I have made my own families to do this sort of thing but they are pretty messy and have various limitations.
I don't know if I would want to buy everything they do but even just as an example of family creation some of it is worth a look I'd say.

To all Revit family content masters. Is this a viable way of creating good Revit families - as they call them "all in one" families.
I purchased several of them but haven't used them in a project. The cupboard takes a significant amount of time to load but once loaded seems to be okay from my very basic "playing around". Before I spend more money on their families I'd like to know if this is money well spent or are they trying to do too much in one family.
I wondered that also but overall the family size seems not bad compared to ones I make myself.
Part of the reason for posting here was to see if anyone had comments such as davidthigpen.
You sort of wonder as well what will happen to the models once out 'in the wild'.

Just from what you can see in the flash views and then if you look at like the cupboard family and its documentation that is 14 pages long, the options are extensive if not amazing! Now that is parametrics on something!

Holy smokes, thats some amazing family creation! Respect!
The revit-content.com authors seem very responsive to feedback.
V2 of their all-in-one kitchen family has just been posted
http://www.revit-content.com/content/kitchen/index.htm
and they tell me that they are working on v2 of the sash window to incorporate user suggestions.
Loading times have been greatly improved.
Only problem I am finding with using content by other people is that it takes a bit of study to learn which parameters control what, but overall it is very encouraging to have this sort of content available.
A big thankyou to the people at revit-content.com
I sent them a wishlist of improvements to the sash window family and they have incorporated them all in v2 just posted

Wait, you are saying that your user based wishlist was answered...The developers at AutoDESK should take some pointers from the crew at revit-content.com
Umm, yes - I was a little stunned to be paid attention to :)
And I am completey amazed that I sent another wishlist of minor modifications on Monday and last night they posted a revised version incorporating my suggestions :)

(I pointed out that traditional sash frames need space at the sides for weights).
I guess this is one of the good things of being an online store.
I hope they can keep this up :)
