View Full Version : Door numbering by room...
I'd like my door tags to reflect the room numbers. I found some older posts from 2003 and was wondering if there is a way around buying the avatech software to accomplish this. Is there a way to set up a parameter or something in the door family?
Muchas gracias.

Theres a plugin from RevitTools that will do exactly that.

There is now functionality in Revit to do this. In the Schedule under Fields there is a pull down in the lower left corner which haves options for To Room and From Room. Add the Room Number field to the schedule. When placing doors they will automatically number themselves bases on which room they swing into at the time they are placed. After they are placed they can be flipped and still retain the original number. Also in the schedule the number can be switched at anytime but it will only allow you to use the room numbers which are on either side of the door. I.e. if you have room 204 and a corridor 201, you can only pick those values. If the room number changes then the door number updates automatically also.
Unfortunately it does not handle multiple doors in each room with a letter designation such as 204a, 204b, 204c, if a letter is needed it will have to be added manually.

Eric, are you sure you didn't dream about this and have now grown to believe it? :) I don't think what you're saying is true. Door numbering is totally independent of Rooms, regardless of whether you add To/From room parameters to the schedule. If this is working different on your side, maybe you could post a video (Try Jing (http://www.jingproject.com/) for free). We'd love to see it!

Dave,
I promise I'm not dreaming. It was actually a class at AU, I was reading a teaser about it the week before AU and thought "no freaking way" just like you. I sat there reading the short vague discription over and over and playing with a test door schedule and low and behold it really does work. Either during lunch or at the end of the day today I will attempt to post a video for all to enjoy.
Eric
it sounds pretty darn cool ... i'm hoping for dream made reality. Look forward to seeing the video.
Thanks,
mj
I successfully have "to room" numbers shoing on my schedule, but no luck in having the room numbers post as the door numbers. Any thoughts?

Ok I got a little over zealous. Revit handles everything internally except for matching the Mark value to the Room Number value. For that final step we have a plugin which has been part of our tool bar for a while. I didn't realize it was part of a plugin until I was going thru creating the video to post here and now I feel like an idiot. Sorry all

What about if multiple doors swing into a room? (201A, 201B). Showing just the To Room parameter would only show "201"

The plugin tool we have automatically adds the letter suffix if there are multiple doors in one room.

Do you have the avatech plugin or another?

We have BIM Assist. It was given to us by our supplier Advanced Solutions.

Haha Eric, no, we won't hold it against you ;) I knew there was some plugin magic in play as the OOTB functionality won't do this (tried to be sure before posting). But thanks for brining this possibility to our attention through this tool!

Adv solutions says "BIMAssist - Revit Add In (FREE Download)" at http://www.advancedsolutionsonline.com/bimassist/index.aspx
Because it also says "Note: Licensing currently available for issuing in the United States only.", I cannot develop any further :(

Plug-in or not, I hadn't realized that the BIM Assist software is free! Thanks for posting.

I think it's only free for a short time... more of a demo it seems.

I have an external way of doing that using a spreadsheet.
First, you need to export a door schedule with door mark and to room number parameters on it. It must be sorted by the room number.
Then, you can input the new door mark values back into revit using Nicolas script (copy spreadsheet).
While not integrated in revit, outside software like spreadsheets and databases provide very powerful tools for working data.
