Plan View opens blank

I think I have seen a post like this before, so forgive me if I am being redundant.

Everytime I open plan views in my project, the view opens in a minimized view, with the view panned to an area that is (apparently) empty. I have to zoom to fit each time. Is there a way to change this? It's minor, but it's annoying.

I have checked visibility of worksets and unhidden categories to see if there is something floating out in space, but so far I not found anything.

oh well, I was figuring it is a user driven error, but maybe it is a system problem. The mystery continues.
