Dear All,

I am facing the problem in inserting the CAD file in Revit 2010.However it is opening in Revit 2009.

You may open it in 2009, but it would quickly become unstable. As for Revit 2010, it provides the message to keep the file more stable. You'll have to "cut" the cad file into pieces to get it in, in those pieces, and then stitch them together inside Revit. Suggestion is not to do this. Anytime Revit calculates a distance more than 1 mile (1500 m) from the origon, it gets flakey due to rounding errors in the math.

Unless you are trying to import a DWG file of... an airport, the whole suburb, a sea port or similar, there is very rare occassion that the DWG file should be so huge.

What it normally means is that somebody, who created this file in AutoCAD didn't pay any attention to the UCS origin. They simply opened the file and started to draw - somewhere, anywhere...

Solution: Open this file (if you can) in AutoCAD and correct the problem - move your objects close to the UCS origin, then import it to Revit.

Alternatively, sometimes there may be something "left behind" (like text, dot, short line, etc.) far away from your main objects area (see pictures 1 & 2 below). Select ONLY your desired objects in DWG file (still in AutoCAD) and "w-block" it (create an external file - block - which contains only these elements - see pictures 3 & 4). Then import this file instead.

Alternatively - do as Scott suggested...

I hope it helps...

the problem could also be that a block in autocad has an origin "far, far, and away". In that case cutting the project in pieces or creating a block won't help. So it could be a lot of work finding, and solving the cause of this problem.

Another possibilitie is to scale back the dwg on importing and resize it when loaded.
