Searched here, but could not find a good thread:

Question regarding the neat trick of nesting detail components into a profile, such as a cornice/parapet wall sweep:

Is it possible to use Keynotes to tag the detail components which are imbedded
in the Profile ?

I've tried making each detail component family "shared"--then reloading into the Profile,
then reloading the Profile into the project--but no luck Keynoting.

If this does not work, it really defeats the purpose and we'll have to go back to each
individual detail where cut thru the Profile Sweep and add detail components "live" in the views to Keynote them..........

cheers

Sorry but no. I've sent a support request for this very issue. I had hoped the same thing you did. What we've done since then is make the model sweeps be whatever they are, and create a detail component family with nested/shared components in it.

For instance, a cast stone sweep would just be the model sweep, and we just use keynotes (by element) for that. Any shelf angles, mortar net, and flashing get included in the detail component that is placed in a detail view. Don't forget that draw order is worthless on nested/shared detail components. Keynoting would still work and the elements won't move like they tend to do in detail groups.

Sucks that we can't have it more automated, but we've found that by making a standard detail cut at that situation is still better than placing sweeps for the steel/mortar net/etc. and honestly we only have a few detail views to worry about for that profile. Any larger wall sections display minimal information, and chances are we won't show the extra level of detail at the cast stone.

Yes-- as I suspected, it sounds like another "almost but not quite" Revit thing....
I'll see if this is on the Wishlist?

I guess the Detail Component Nested Family placed in the detail view is the best alternative.

Anyone else have any experience here?

cheers......
