I need to take the typical 2x2 and 2x4 ACT grids and add a diagnol down hatch on top of them to indicate vinyl coated act. Does someone know how to modify the .pat file to achieve this?

Yeah, but it's a learning experience every time. It seems impossible to retain this knowledge.
It might be easier to take the diagonal pattern and add the grid. It might be cut and paste.

That worked. Thanks.

Copy and paste works for a lot of those. Precast concrete according to the NCS is basically a diagonal down on top of the concrete hatch. I took the diagonal down OOTB hatch and copied and pasted it to the very end of a duplicate of concrete, and it works great...

Scott / Aaron, et al:

Please clarify--

As I understand it, "copy paste" meaning the actual text/syntax from one .pat file into the other.pat file , creating a new one?

This is a good technique and perhaps a lot of users could benefit from it,
as I see that it is very common that the average Revit user does not understand how
(and where! ) to edit the .pat file. Saves time/frustration in trying to create a "new fill pattern" from scratch.

Perhaps someone could kindly post an example?

cheers.........

Thats exactly what I did. Open the .pat file, copy/paste the 2 x 4 ceiling grid in the text file, rename it 2x4 Vinyl Coated, then copy paste the ANSI131 hatch(which is diagnol) underneath the code for the 2x4, save and load.

Yup, exactly what Scott said. It works really well when you want to combine two complex patterns for Material elevations. Like, CMU running block, with stipple, or Brick with diagonal lines to denote banding, and such.

Its fantastic. :)

Thanks, guys.

I vaguely remember doing that back in the ADT/Cad days...............
