I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem. I'm starting a new project using RA 2010. The project is in an isolated rural community and I wanted to specify the exact coordinates for latitude and longitude to get accurate sun models. When i put in my coordinates revit automatically selects a timezone. My problem is that I know that my project is in the Central timezone and revit has defalted to Mountain. Is there any way that i can manually set my timezone?

Yeah, pretty bizarre sometimes. I have most of my projects located as New York City (where?) and the time zone comes up with Indiana, and is greyed out. And I do not have a solution...

You can add co-ordinates and new locations to the locations file.

The file is in the Program Folder in Revit Structure.

You can then open it in Notepad and read the notes on how to modify the file then add new locations as you see fit.

My issue is not with adding a location. My problem is that once the location has been added, Revit automatically assigns the wrong timezone.

For example, I will use North Platte, NE. This city is an out of the box location that comes preset in Revit. Anyone should be able to select it as a city in their Manage Place and Locations window. When I pick this location from the dropdown list it shows the timezone as Mountain Time. This is wrong as North Platte is in the Central timezone, but there is no way to change it. The drop down for timezones is not editable.

So I am curious if there is a way that I would be able to change the timezone? Otherwise my solar studies are going to be off by an hour.

Have you tried manually entering latitude and longitude--with geodata from a reliable source
( to compare to what Revit values are.) ?

just a thought.......

I did pull the GPS data from the USGS website. Here is what I found for North Platte.

Revit Coordinates - Lat: 41.133 Long: -100.771
USGS Coordinates - Lat: 41.140 Long: -100.760

The coordinates from both sources are very close. Granted North Platte is within 30 miles of the timezone change, but I am having the same problem with the coordinates for a city that is over 150 miles from the timezone line. At this point I'm starting to wonder if the program does not have accurate time zone boundaries relative to the real world.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were the case. Afterall, any program and especially data in it is only as good as the people who wrote it... And they are humans too... apparently.

Perhaps someone at the Factory could chime in on this?

LOL
