I am having a little problem. While working revit stops operation and gives a stop box of

-The openGL implementation in this view has caused a fatal error in the
-application. The extents of the current view will be reset with a "zoom to
-fit" in the save file

-A Microsoft hotfix is available to prevent this error. The hotfix can be
-obtained by contacting Microsoft Technical Support At 800-936-4900 and
-requesting the hotfix for knowledge base article Q309097.
-Alternatively the fix can be downloaded from the Revit download center
-@ www.revit.com.

I have downloaded the fix from revit but it is for Win2000, I'm running
XP pro. It won't let me use this. Microsoft has nothing on their site that I can find. They are unresponsive to calls, just wanting to charge $$$ for anything they do. Computer manufacturer can't do anything. Whats left?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Turn your opengl off in the options.

Opengl is off in options. I tried turning it on and got the same message.
Also, upon further investigation, it seems to only occur in this one drawing file...could it be corrupted or something?

Sounds like a possibility. You might want to contact Revit on this issue.

I had the same problem - to fix it I changed the open gl properties, closed revit and then restarted revit and all was fine for me.

Hope this helps

I'm having this same problem now. But my computer is crashing (restarts) about 3 times before windows loads correctly.

I have not had opengl checked in options.

What fixed it for others? Sending the file to Revit or something else?

I've seen some problems with certain video cards... what kind of video cards do you have?

I've got a Nvidia Quadro4 980XGL
Running on XP pro

With your card, Brent, XP probably sends you updates on the video driver automatically via Windows Update. But you could try updating the video driver. Are you saying your PC crashes when Windows loads, or when Revit loads? If it's during boot-up with Windows, then it could be bad hardware, corrupt Windows files, etc... ugly!

I think that I fixed the problem with the Open GL error. I checked the Open GL shut down and restarted Revit, then I unchecked and did the same. I have not had the error for a day or so. (I took funkman’s advice)

But I have another problem. :banghead:

My computer is crashing randomly. Usually when I’m in Revit.

When it happens, the screen goes black for a couple seconds and then I see the boot up screen. With no warning or anything.
When the desktop finishes loading, it displays a message that windows just recovered from a serious error.
I submit the error report and get a internet page that says that it's a display driver problem (but no solution)
On the Nvidia website, it has the current driver (45.23)
But they have "Partner Certified" drivers ranging from:
28.80 - Autodesk (AutoCAD 2002, Mechanical Desktop)
40.72 - Autodesk (Inventor) [the one I am using]

Should I try to reinstall the video card with a generic driver and then upgrade the driver to one of these?
Or does anyone have any other thoughts.

You might want to check for one of the fairly recent virus attacks, random restarts was one of the specific symptoms if I recall. Sorry I can't remember the virus name.

We're very good about scanning for viruses.
We have a server that has Norton Corporate software that scans every day with updated info.

It seems to be a video problem, albeit a VERY bad one.

I'm going to look at Nvidia's web site.

Thanks,
Brent

I installed the current driver for my card.
I'll see if that does it.
