I am attempting to use the structural components in Revit architecture and notice that when a web joist or structural beam visibility is placed to course there is a solid line that represents the structural member. I would like to create a new line type style for the component unfortunately when I edit the family there are some lines already loaded in the family none of which I would like to use to represent the component. I tried to create a new line type style in the family but the lines styles is gray and it will not allow me to create a new line style any help would be greatly appreciated.

You actually can handle this in the project through Manage>Settings>Object Styles. The Structural Columns and Structural Framing categories each have a line for Stick Symbols which allows you to customize them throughout the project. I haven't personally done much with Structural components so I'm not sure what if any limitations you'll run into but this should get you going the right direction.
