We are working on a reno project of an existing house that has had multiple additions over the years. There are several intersecting/ overlapping roofs. They look fine in elevation views, but since they overlap, I end up with roof overhangs appearing in interior spaces.

I would like to model it more closely to how it is actually framed, so that sections and interior views are correct. What are some strategies to achieve this...

It would be nice if the cut geometry tool would physically separate the cut portions and then you could simply delete the cut portions, but it doesn't seem to work this way.

Try using the Opening tool.

You can cut vertically or perpendicular to the main roof face.

Then try editing the sketch lines in plan, to cut out the roof projections from the interior.

There is a specific "dormer" tool which may also be helpful.

cheers......

Thanks for the suggestions..I've tried the opening tool before when a gable meets another perpendicular gable. It works reasonably well, but gets a little messy.

Guess I'll just have to edit the sketch lines where roofs overlap.
