I am generally happy with the quality of Revit's renderings. However, I do not like the fact that the images appear drab or dingy. I have tried adjusting the exposure settings, but it only helps a little. I want my renderings to be clear and to pop. I can do some of that in Photoshop, but what I do in it is dependendent on the quality of the initial image from Revit.

I know there are other rendering software options, but for now I need to use what I have.

Please post an example, and a detailed description of the model, what problems
you are having, and then we can try to help solve the issues and improve your rendering.

Blanket statements do nothing in getting real-world results.

I know you said you have played with the exposure correction, but have you tried to increase the saturation, raise the exposure value and then increase the shadow setting? The default settings tend to be a bit muted.

This is 100% Revit 2010---no Photoshop or post editing.

Original is very crisp, at hi-res.
This one is reduced for web posting.

One thing that you can do that will help the drab is to add a sky background. The revit sky backgrounds are incredibly dull and will really kill a scene.

I do this usually by simply making a wall that fills the backdrop of my camera view, and adding a material with a sky image mapped to it.

Good luck.

One more note....

If you export your render when its done and load it into photoshop... you can simply go to image->Adjustments->Auto Levels

It takes about 10 seconds and will make your scene look alot better.

Happy renderings...

hey Cliff...the practice gets some great work to do..I like the design. How much aggro have the curved shell elements to produce in terms of docs and interdisciplinary stuff plus fabrication ? none of it looks like concrete so assume its steel , glass and Alucabond or similar ? would have been fund to work up and detail but also assume you were a little troubled with scheduling areas for the shell elements ? ?

trombe,

your question are good ones, but a bit off-topic--which was about " drab renderings"
from Revit.........

So I'll have to keep all that secret in this post!

I always do a single color for the sky and then add it in PS when I do post edit work. Revit sky is bad. And I will also do the auto levels thing in PS as well. See attached.
