I can't seem to find any way to do this. I'm trying to link the room name to an area tag. I know that they could refer to two different areas but, with all of the coordination benefits of Revit, there should be a way to refer to a room name from an area tag. I can only assume that since the area analysis plans refer to completely separate areas they have a unique place in the database and can refer to other items.
If there is a way to do this, please let me know.

Room tags can display area. In 7.0, check the properties under Graphics and tick the area box.
Does that achieve what you are after ?

Sorry Beegee,
I probably wasn't clear. I am working in the Area Analysis mode. I can place Area Tags there, but not with Room Name info. Room Tags aren't allowed in the Area section.

Its difficult to see what you're attempting to achieve. An area tag, by nature, generally encompasses a whole floor and a number of rooms, so it can't be tied to room names.
If you're using area tags to create room areas specifically, then you are replicating the room tag function.
Need an example / image probably...

I have attached a screen capture.
What my firm needs to do is show areas to the developer as they wish to calculate them. I have attached a simple plan showing the area tag highlighted with the bounding area. This was successfully placed in the 'Gross Area' analysis plan. The name of this area is Subway. I cannot connect this area 'name' with the room name in the Level 1 plan. All I am hoping for is a pointer or parameter to share the room name across tags. I understand that the areas will be different but, the Level 1 plan does not allow me to show areas to the exterior face / center of walls as requested by the developer of the property.
Does this help?

Hi Brad,
If you use Area Plan rentable, uncheck apply area rules, you can define the area by arbitrarily chosen boundaries.
In the attached example, I have overlayed, on a sheet view, the Floor plan containing the room names, with the Area Plan, containing the areas named to match the room names. The area is turned off for the Room Names. You could do the same thing with small text ( period , coma etc ) place holders for the area names, but in that case, you would want to turn off the legend.
In my example, the Room Names and Area Names are not linked. You could add a shared parameter to the Area tag, but it would still need to manually updated if the Room name changed, so I couldn't see the point.
