I am creating a sloped curtain wall as shown in the attached image. Basically, the "mullions" are tube steel and the panels are chain link (it's a security roof for a detention facility). I have two questions.

1-I would like the tube steel elements to trim vertically at the ends in order to attach to the wall correctly, is this possible? I've see the setting in the mullions for "parralel to ground" but that trims them horizontally. How would you trim them vertically?

2-It is my understanding that a positive offset of the panels will offset them toward the exterior. If that is true, this system thinks the downward face of the system is the exterior. This makes the mullions go on the wrong side of the curtain system. I could make a mullion that is reversed, but it seems like there should be a way to flip the wall orientation... I have tried both sloped glazing and a curtain system by lines, and they act basically the same way.

or lastly, is there another system that you would recommend using? Should I use just one large curtain system without mullions for the fence and structural members for the supports? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Steve,

Item 1:
I would probably show the top/bottom end mullions as 'normal' (90 degrees to the sloping faces) so that it is more like the way it would be probably fabricated for simplicity. In similar conditions, I would have a custom bent steel angle or ripped 3x covered in break metal as an edge condition to anchor the framing to, therefore making a simpler frame.
You could of course, create this entire system (or just the end mullions) as an in-place family and make a trapazoidal frame at the ends so that it flushes out with the verical faces and the frame itself; however, that may be an expensive way to go.

I think that you are limited to your options when dealing with curtain system mullions at edges.

Item 2: I just created a sloped glazing skylight and it placed the mullions below the glazing panels. The slope is only 1" in 12" however. Maybe the slope has something to do with it? I have not run into that one yet.

Good luck
Steve

I have not looked at curtain walling in 7 in detail but in earlier versions you could make a panel that contained elements outside the width/depth/height of the panel and some people did look at this functionality to make bracket fixings for butt glazed systems. You could make your end bracket flush with the wall and with a fixing plate and all part of the panel.

ok, thanks for the suggestions guys. Haven't had a chance to get back to this one yet, as some other things have come up, but I'll try them and let you know.

Did you ever find the solution to flipping the orientation of a ruled curtainwall system created by selecting a face of a mass? I have the same situation and it keeps putting the vertical mullion on the outside of the wall, not the inside?

Does anybody have a solution to flipping the orientation as mentioned in Item 2 of original post
