When creating families, I thought it would make sense to use the same linestyles to create the objects as used throughout our project. But in the family editor, although you can add linestyles through the object styles menu, it doesn't look like you can transfer them using the Transfer Projects Standard. Also, you can't cut and paste them from your project.
This would indicate to me that I'm approaching this all wrong, but I don't understand why.
Can someone shed some light on this?
Thanks,
Jason

Line styles in the family editor are totally different than the annotate lines or model lines in the project.
Family line styles have visibility parameters that either show in cut or projection, and this all depends on how your view in your project is set up with your view range. Each family templete is set up for most all line styles you will need to represent the object. You can control the line weights of each of these pre-set line types in the family editor in your project.
Symbolic lines in the family editor are used for representing something about the object in a 2D fashion, meaning it is just lines and not 3D geometry, moslty when the object is cut it will show the symbolic lines only in that view.

you can create "same" line styles in family editor by using subcategory.
