Hmmm....
I think I read a post by someone, somewhere, that went something like
" a quick way to do 3D detailing that will blow your mind "
Now I won't admit that is baiting or teasing, but we are such a hungry crowd around here.
I hope somebody throws us a bone (:))

Will be posted as the December Tips and Trick of the month....gotta build some screen captures and try and post it tonight!
hmmmm....now I hope it's not one of those "I already knew that!" Although we demostrated it at the "What's New in 7.0 Lab" at AU, and everyone was pretty impressed!

Dang Scott!
Nice one!
Fooling with your method a bit, I tried a callout, selecting the bottom corner of the window in an elevation view of the window, then found that it was listed as a view to orient to, and got similar results.

Nice Tip Scott
Got it working, added it to my little blue book.
However, when I look at mine in shaded mode in Revit 6.1 it does not show any wall thickness like in your example.
Instead it shows the internal wall as a face, same with the external wall.
Does this happen to anyone else or am I doing something wrong as usual.
One Again nice tip though.

Thanks for being a good sport Scott.
Your help around this place is invaluable.
Thanks,

I had the same experience as David The Welshman, so I think it's universal.
Then I noticed I was in 6.1, but when I went to 7 it was exactly as Scott had mentioned.
Excellent tip! Really great capability!

Now we need to "wish" for the ability to pick a work plane in a 3D view, and draft in 2D or place 2D components. Currently, you can't 'draft' in this view, and I tried to pick a cut surface as a workplane, and it wont allow me.

That's one of the really cool features of a little-known BIM system called BOA. You can draw 2D stuff over the 3D cuts, if I remember correctly. It was over a year since I looked at it.

Currently, you can't 'draft' in this view,
In a pinch, there is a workaround that seems to give a reasonable result.
Set up & lock the 3d view.
Place it on a blank sheet.
Export the sheet to .dwg or .dgn.
Once done delete the sheet, (or, duplicate the 3d view)
Import the resultant .dwg or .dgn into a drafting view. (same scale as 3d view)
Add the 2d linework / fills, text, etc.
Place the 3d view on your sheet.
Place / align the drafting view over the 3d view.
Activate the drafting view & turn off the imported .dwg/.dgn linework.
Deactivate the view.

there is a workaround
nice, that will work! But it would still be nice to 'draft' and pick workplanes in a 3D view......
