Daylight Portals in Existing Construction

We are trying to render new construction within an existing structure including existing windows. Following turning on the daylight portals and setting the lighting to Interior sunlit, we do not see any portals listed in the rendering dialogue and the rendering stays black. Any suggestions??

A thought...Are you sure you have got the phase filter correct? ie: If you use 'Show All' instead of 'Show Complete' the glazing will have a material override...hence no daylight will get through it
