How can I only show the wall material only without metal stud layer and air space layer?
So, the total number of wall should be 1 instead of 3.
Also, how can I get the linear ft of the wall?

1. You can filter the schedule by Material Name. open the schedule properties and select Filter: EDIT.
2. There is a parameter for this; but depending on how you modeled the walls may not be very accurate.

Thanks for the suggestion.
So what's the parameter that you suggested to calculate the linear ft?
When you said it's not accurate, what's best method to ensure it's accurate?

It's called Length. Just make sure you check 'calculate totals' under formatting.
Some walls span across multiple stories, but in reality, for scheduling, they are different walls.

Paul,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I got the linear ft. I guess the trick is to build the model like the way it's constructed in the field to ensure the accuracy??
The filter thing you were talking about for the Material: Name.
How do I filter it? Do I just choose filter: edit, not contains: stud and air layer if I only want the wall material?

Yes.

or the reverse: Contains: FINISH.
Hope that helps.

Cool. So the type material that's being applied is critical then.
If there are 3 layers of the wall: airspace, stud, and finish. If all 3 of them are using the same material within the wall. The wall counts will be 3 instead of 1. But I can't really filter that out since they all have the same name. So I just have to manually adjust it since I'm not the original owner of the file, is that correct?

You've said it yourself: "I guess the trick is to build the model like the way it's constructed in the field to ensure the accuracy"...
If the "Air Space" has the same material as "Studs" and "Finish" assigned to it it's NOT like it's going to be in the real life, is it?
So YES! If you want Revit to play nicely with you go and correct whatever mistakes and... "shortcuts" somebody else made... In my book that goes as well for using a single wall across multiple levels. It's VERY rarely built this way - as a SINGLE wall, so why to model it like so? It's not a shortcut because it creates number of other problems later - at least in my case always did... I make a point to model a separate wall for each level separately - even if they align precisely. It's much more logical that way too - IMHO.

Yes, the wall material schedule can only be accurate if the model is built the way like it's constructed in the field.
One thing I still don't quite understand is this:
Under the filter, when I choose "does contain" cedrtain Material:Name, then only those will appear.
But I choose "does not contain" certain Material:Name, every single Material is disappeared. Why is that the case?

I'm glad to see that what I did on my own yesterday was on the proper train of thought!
Now, I need to take this thought process to the next level... I need to figure the exterior wall finish by elevation (i.e. on the north side of the building, south side, etc.). My thought process is have an instance parameter in the wall (N,S,E,W) and then having to go around the model and do it... Time consuming but I don't think that there's an easier way around it is there? While I have this idea in theory how would I actually go about it? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Travis

can you post a few screen shots? My guess is that it's something simple.

I ended up using the "comments" parameter as my instance parameter. But, I did finally get around to noticing that I can't track Stacked Walls in this manner which is kind of frustrating. So I guess that I split the walls in the instances where I had stacked walls in order to track it. I take it that no one has found a better work around for this over the years? Time to look and see if it has ever been put on the wish list...
