I had asked a question a few weeks back concerning Orient to view/model cube rendered images having an inconsistent sky background. This week, I have another problem. We 're preparing a presentation of rendered images for a client. When the images were rendered, the sky was included (no clouds, or few clouds). Saved the image as a TIF file, and sent it to a printer. Out comes the rendered image with no sky at all- just reads the color of the paper. In testing the problem, I saved the same rendered image to the Revit file as well. Open, or print out the image directly from the Revit file, the sky reads and prints as it should. Any idea what the problem could be?

The problem is with the transparency included in the tiff format, this is for replacing the sky. I don't think windows photo viewer handles it correctly. I usually print from photoshop or export two files one jpg and one tiff. If you don't have photoshop you could try paint. If that doesn't work you could use paint.net or the Gimp, wich are nice photoshop alternatives.

Thanks Jim,
I'll check it out. Is windows viewer the default we would typically get opening a TIF file on our computers?

Highlight the tiff file, go to properties, and specify "opens with" default program,
from the list of available programs on the computer.

Hey there,
TIFF files, like PNG file, put the sky background on an alpha channel for the purpose of adding your own sky background.
Quick fix:
Open a typical new Drafting View in Revit.
Insert into this new view any JPG or other file format of a sky that you like.
Then, insert your TIFF rendering. Place the the rendering over the sky photo and move/stretch either one as needed to make it look good.
Then, pin them and use the Masking Region to crop the view nicely and Export Image out as new JPG or other file. Here are a couple of examples.
Voila!
Best of luck

Stay tuned for Revit 2011, which brings back the option to add a background image
into the rendering.......
