Revit 2010
as in the attached image, i need the stepped footing to overlap shown in red. is this possible, and if so, howdya do it?

Use an in place family.

The videos show a similar footing. You can adapt your in place family to your needs.

Another way to do it is to make several sections of a wall that is the width of your footing, then in a section or elevation view, grip edit the bottom and top of the footing down, and you can use the instance properties of the wall to fine tune the elevations of the footing, or use the align tool to align the top of the lower footing with the bottom of the upper footing.

works well. splitting the wall seems a bit clunky, but it gets me there. thank you.
