View Full Version : Pesky Door and Window Lines

Yo,
This one has been bedeviling me since I started using Revit:

I have a block wall spanning from the first floor to a roof parapet above, with windows in it. As I look at the roof plan and the block wall parapet I can see the window lines of the windows from below. The windows are well below the view depth but still show. Sometimes I can get rid of them with the line tool, other times not.

Similarly, when I draw my floor plan and put a door into the wall, two lines show up on the floor at the opening, then I have to use the linework tool to make it invisible.

Is there any way to fix these? Am I doing something wrong? It is a real annoyance!

Thanks and have a great day!

On the first note, do you have any floors set as an underlay? If you do then go to View Properties dialog box and set Underlay to None.

When you say two lines do you mean like a threshold for a door? Can you post a screen shot so we can look at this.

The line you see at the floor could be the edge of the floor if you have put one in.

Yo,
I have no underlays and the lines are not floor object lines. I have attached two images so you can see it.

I'll be amazed if I am the only one with this problem!

I'd check the family that the door openings are using and see if there might be some stray symbolic lines in the family...

Similarly with the windows. try flexing the families as well to see if for instance to see if any symbolic lines are not locking correctly

still don't get it from shots but I had similar problem and was advised to open the family file of the problem family, click visibility button for each element of the family and uncheck plan/RCP in the Family Element Visibilty Settings dialogue box. In theory the only plan view the door or element should show in is one where the cut plane goes through it.

Tom...any plan regions in this project by any chance?

Yo,
No plan regions Steve...

I work with a structural engineering firm. I am interested only in the rough opening in the wall, not all that architectural stuff. So I took one of the door families and stripped out everything but the rough opening.
I do not see any lines in the family. I have attached it here. Maybe I did not do it right. Can you guys take a look and see if it works?

The more I think about this it makes me wonder how the structural & architectural openings would work together if we were both modeling. If the structural guy owns the block wall and puts a rough opening into it, how would the architect put in the finish door opening? hhhhmmmm?

There are two symbolic lines in the floor plan of the family, you can delete these safely and it will hopefully fix the problem...

Guess I should've looked at the family first huh? Good one Chris!

Chris,
You were right, there were symbolic lines there...thanks a lot. The doors look OK but I am still seeing the lines on the top of the parapets. I keep thinking it somehow relates to the view depth but I have tried reducing it and it does not help.

I put two questions on the forum yesterday and both turned out to be rather easy to diagnose, yet to me they were not.
I guess that's one of the reasons this forum was voted the best AUGI forum by AUGI users.....it's awesome!

Have a great day!
