View Full Version : Create a countertop with OPTION for rounded ends?

User wants a countertop family with options to have either end or both ends have a rounded corner instead of square (round in plan). What is the best way to accomplish this? I'd like to use my line-based 2-pick countertop family as a starting point, which uses a countertop profile sweep, and then I can round the ends with voids, but how to switch them back to square ends if desired?

I'd really like to avoid having completely separate solids for each condition (would need 4 total, overlapping), if possible.

Can you do voids as yes/no visibility?

Have the voids parameteritized with a yes/no function and a formula. When "rounded ends" is checked, a formula drives the void, pushing it through the counter top and cuts it. When "rounded ends" is unchecked, the void sits above the countertop and does not cut it, leaving the ends square. The void will not show in the project.

ooOOoooOo nice idea Scott! Glenn, no, voids cannot have a yes/no visibility parameter assigned to them.

Here is the pumpkin example I found on there. I'm not taking credit for this one, because I didn't do it. I just learned some tricks by reverse engineering it.

Cheers,

Scott's idea worked like a charm!

I simply have the radius set to 1/32" for 'squared' corners. I try to avoid using voids in families

David, what is thinking behind not having voids in families? Have you found they break stuff?

No they don't break anything but they do have a significant impact on performance
