see attached png. this format has been passed on down through the years, originally with LeRoy and Rapidograph, then R10 Text and lines. It's a PITA, but it's what the bosses like.

Any thought on the best way to get this appearance with modern Acad? and be easily editable.....

drag into CAD screen and drop. Adobe pro might be able to put text and insert into text box in cad.

sorry for any confusion - but it's already in CAD. the png is just a screen capture. the actual abbreviation list is Acad objects. unfortunately, just lines and text. Text on left is a faux column, left justified. Text on right is not associated with the text on the left, and is right justified. line are not associated with either, but are drawn in place to visually link the left and right columns.

about the way we would have done it with v2.14 in 1985. this now the 21st century, and I'm hoping someone will have a better way to get the same result, or similar visually.

Here ya go. Take a look at the attached image. It uses the MText editor.

That's what I was going to suggest. I might add that Word has it built into the tabs so that you can automatically underline the spaces. You double click on the ruler to access the tab format dialog and select 4 for the leader style. I'm using Map 2008, so maybe a newer version added some more mtext formatting options.

I second that...
however the property line symbol is going to look a lot better.
I hope the boss doesn't notice it... hahaha

Merci, danke, thanks! I knew someone here would have a better idea.

This works very well for simple abbreviations with one-line per abbreviation/definition combo

I don't know of any way to force a linefeed without leaving the right justified portion, and there seems to be odd behavior when using an Mtext symbol. In the attached png, the line between the PL symbol and the word PROPERTY keeps vanishing whenever I edit the mtext entity, and the multi-line definition really gets odd looking.

Both of these are boundary conditions though, so while not a perfect solution, it's a heck of a lot better.

Update: by adding a space after the symbol character, and then hitting TAB, I get a much better result. The underline remains, and the Home key returns to the beginning of the line.

So the sequence for entering text is Text <SPACE><TAB>Text
