I cannot figure out how to apply materials or how to make these elements actual walls or roofs (whatever as long as they are constructed of studs). Please help. I have attached my Revit file. The 2 tower elements are the culprits. One is an in place family and one was generated with the massing tool. I am just trying to construct a tower constructed of steel studs with a stucco surface. I need an element that looks correct on the exterior with the correct materials and also that I can cut a section through and see the correct construction of the element.

You are working in something other than release 7 which will make your life more difficult.
If you upgrade you will have access to better massing tools and should be able to resolve this if you work through the help files. In principle, and I haven't used the new massing tools in anger yet, you will make your sloped walls either a large area of curtain system and make a custom panel that has layers to match your wall build up, or you will make the sloped walls as roof sections with a material build up equivalent to your wall and then nest any windows you need inside roof hosted families and insert the new 'host' family into the sloping roof. Scott Davies or Scott Brown has recently posted on how to get this to work. Just serach on their names for posts in the last month to get more detail.....
Incidentally, a roof with a cut off point at whatever height your system should be will work as well as a roof formed from a release 7 massing form if you are doggedly sticking with the earlier version, at least to resolve your particular problem.
Hope that helps

Click on the family. Hit the edit button. Then go to properties. Thats where you can change the material.
You may need to do another in place family for the stucco on the exterior. Change its material to EFIS, etc...

Hey Matt,
I assume this is you, here in Tucson. Sorry I couldn't call you back yesterday. (and with Jake, that makes three of us Tucsonians on one thread, what are the odds?)
I played with this last night in V6.1. I think I have your solution; however, it is a workaround. Call me.
