View Full Version : Wiremold - how are you doing it?

We are looking into the best way to deal with wiremold with multiple alternating circuits.
To get the family to show the correct homerun, we would have to set it as a 3 phase. But to get 3 separate 120V circuits in the panel that will not work.
We see a similar problem for site lighting where we run three phase feeder wires for site lighting and various light poles tap into different pairs of wires. Need to indicate which circuits are tapped at each pole, not all 3 circuits the feeder is connected to. Dumb text is a bad idea, no intelligence.

try using more than one electrical connector on the families. Label each connector separately in the description of the connector on the family. This will allow you to select which connector you want circuited during circuiting. This can work for both your wiremold and your site lighting fixture. The site lighting side may be a bit trickier though.

Having one non-electrical family which is the Wiremold enclosure, then hosting the receptacles and what not to that family.
End product looks something like this:

i've been doing it the way Matthew suggests, i have 1 channel and 2 channel sizes, then host normal receptacles and phone/datas to it, and then adjust the heights in section to make sure you're on the wiremold.

Matthews suggestion is probably the best.
kalimazoop, I've tried using your technique for junction boxes. I was working on a hospital and we had junction boxes above the ceiling combining multiple circuits. In theory your idea works, except that the tags aren't as smart. When you try and tag the homeruns, it will only recognize one circuit because within the family you are only allowed to designate one circuit as the main circuit (which is what gets tagged).
Maybe this changed in 2011, I haven't checked yet.

Just had a follow up question ... how are you handling it graphically in plan view? A 2" wide wiremold raceway won't show up very well at 1/8"=1'-0".

you can't tell it's size, you'll have to note that, but it shows in the same pen as the receptacles (wiremold family is setup as electrical fixture category), so you can see it very clearly against the half-tone background wall.

That's kinda what I figured, our company has this 1/16" checkered line that represents wiremold so I came up with an additional line based family to draw on top of the actual wiremold. Twice the work though .... I like your approach better.

I too have been hosting the receptacles and what not to a wiremold enclosure. I place on an electrical equipment workset as I workset out the subdisciplines and many times will have seperate telecom from power plans and each needs to show the wiremold.
I started mine from an electrical device family but I like the non electrical approach as we have not been leveraging Revit E to it's potential yet.
