In sketch mode, I have a magenta sketch line that has two small parallel lines... If I delete it and redraw it, the small parallel lines return. As far as I can tell, it doesn't cause me any problems, but I am curious as to what they are.
I am using Revit 2011. It is the first time I have noticed these.
see attached.

I noticed the same thing last night. Like you said, it didn't seem to affect anything. I'm curious as to what it is also.

That is an indication of the deck direction, if you are drawing a metal deck. 2010 couldn't set the deck direction unless you were using Revit Structure. You'll see the same indicator if you are drawing a beam system.

Thank you Aaron. A few quick follow ups:
1) How do I change the direction of the decking?
2) How does Revit choose which line segment to add the direction indicator?
3) Is there always a direction indicator... even for non-structural floors?
Thanks in advance

The first line you sketch will automatically have that deck direction indicator. I believe all floor sketches have it, whether it's structural or not and whether it has metal deck or not.
To change the direction I believe you have to use span direction annotation or something like that. Check the documentation, there should be something in there about it.

To change the direction I believe you have to use span direction annotation or something like that.
There is a span direction button on the Create Floor Boundary contextual tab that appears when sketching a floor. You can then pick an existing sketch line (default behavior) to pick a new span direction, or switch to span by drawing (icon in ribbon to switch between draw and pick) and then draw a line to indicate span direction, independent of the sketch lines. see image for Span by Drawing.
