Area calculation question

I am working on reconstruction and addition to a house. Everything but basement walls are to be demolished. For taxing purposes Building Department is asking for current and new house area.

Is there a way to have "rooms" to be demolished and "new" rooms tabulated.

As far as I know, rooms can only exist in one phase. If you have 3 phases set up (existing, demo, new construction) you should be able to have rooms in both the existing phase and the new. Then all you have to do is add a new room schedule and set it's phase to existing.
