Hi, this is the first time I visited your forum and I thought it would be a great place to get some advice. My boss plans to purchase a new computer devoted to the task of running AutoCAD LT and I would like to be able to give him some suggestions on what we need.
I am an operator at a powerplant owned by public utility and I am not a draftsman, computer expert, or AutoCAD guru. As an extra duty I use AutoCAD LT 2002 to maintain electrical blueprints of our facility and transmission system. We currently use a Dell pentium 4 system with windows XP and we have an HP 500 designjet plotter. The computer is connected to a LAN, but I am the only person maintaining CAD files at our facility.
My question is? What would be a good choice for a new system to perform this task using off-the-shelf- equipment in the $1000-$2000 price range? A 19" monitor is one feature the new system should have. I haven't priced or shopped for a PC in about 10 years so any input is welcome. Thanks.
