View Full Version : QSelect and Previous, 2010 vs 2007

here's the deal.
In 2007 ACAD, I could go to QSelect, find a bunch of lines and polylines on a given layer, start the Pedit command, multiple, previous and the items that were found in QSelect would be my "previous". Poof, Bang, Voila! All the lines turned into polylines and all the new and existing polylines could be assigned a width.
:Puffy:
Now, however, in 2010 ACAD, the previous selection from QSelect isn't recognized by the Pedit command. This is really messing me up, because I have relied heavily on this functionality.
I haven't changed any setting, that I'm aware of, that would impact the way Qselect would function.
:banghead:
I can work around it by using Layerwalk or by opening the drawing in 2007, but neither are acceptable, long-term solutions.
Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

I see what you mean. I probably never noticed it before because I dont use pedit too often. What about using the properties palette to change the widths? To join them, I use the old express tool pljoin, it still works with the selection set.
I cant check 2007 because I dont have it, but I can tell you that it appears to do the same thing in 2011.

Thanks for the reply. I do use the properties palette extensively, but the nice thing about Pedit is that it also changes selected lines into polylines at the same time and can join them within the same selection set. If it's doing the same thing in 2011, I'm probably screwed.

"Thank you for choosing Autodesk Support.
I understand that when selecting some objects in AutoCAD 2010 and then executing PEDIT and attempting to use "previous" when prompted to select objects, it gives the message "No previous selection set" and nothing is selected.
This functionality changed with AutoCAD 2009. I do not know if it was intentional or not, but it does seem odd that you cannot use previous selection within PEDIT. It still does not work in AutoCAD 2011.
After some tinkering, I managed to get it to work by selecting objects, then moving them, then undo to put them back, and then executing PEDIT. Previous selection now works. It's an extra step, but it keeps your selection set.
Please let me know if this works for you also."
:-(
Instead of moving them, execute the select command. You will then have a previous selection for the subsequent pedit -> multiple command. This works in 2010.

or even E(rase) + OOPS which takes marginally less typing (unless you have an alias for SELECT) - and both still work in 2011. :)

I would use copy, select objects, then cancel the copy command, this way there is no duplicate made and select previous will pick selected objects. also, If they are all on one layer, try layiso, then pedit, then layerp. I might isolate layers, perform a task, then turn layers on again 300 times a day, 400 on Fridays.

It's just so weird that pedit won't accept "previous" from QSelect as a selection set, when all other commands will. Just initiating the command loses the selection set. It did that before, too. I guess it just doesn't recognize noun/verb selection, but it always recognized "previous" in 2007.
At any rate, Autodesk support is on the case. They're aware of the problem, and have techies working on it. In the meantime, they are "glad" that I have found a work-around. Yeah, I'm thrilled, too. I would think they'd be able to fix it pretty easily, since it worked pre-2009 and I don't see any difference between 2007 QSelect and 2010 QSelect.
Thanks, all, for the suggestions.

Technically, it takes the same number of keystrokes. :p You have to hit enter (or space or right-click) twice, which totals the same number of characters to type.
An alias for SELECT could be created to work for the "work-around". It would also be less volatile than erasing anything.

Actually, I'm a fan of the select command (one of the great forgotten commands) and have SE as an alias for it. 8)

My select previous command seems to be working for pedit from qselect or ssx but it's not working for simple selections. For instance, i'll pick an object, hit esc, start a command like move and when prompted for objects i enter p. It either says "no previous selection set" or it selects the last qselection of ssx selection.
Anybody else have this issue?

Hitting ESC cancels the selection set. You need to hit ENTER before ESC.
