I'm just wondering if this can actually be done in Revit. Using separate rail objects I can get the rail return with no post at the end, but I can't figure out how to extend the end of the stair rail past the post to meet the new section, and how to get the rail extension to return back to the post.

Anyone been down this road before?

Thanks,

Jeff

hand rail or guard rail?

I have used both families that have the hand/guard rails together and separate.
if you have them separate, you can create a handrail that has no vertical posts allowing it do a turn-back. you might also create a nested family to do this also.

It can be done using a seperate baluster family defined to the "post" ends of the railig family. You can download:

http://seek.autodesk.com/product/latest/adsk/revit/families/arch/empty/Revit_ARC1853

a sample file with many railings including one with extensions close to what you posted. Using that as an example you should be able to alter the baluster family to your specific requirements.
